From a white chocolate laced Cranberry Martini to a delightful Gingerbread Coffee, Boston’s Tamo Bar at the Seaport Hotel knows how to perk up weary travelers and shake up the yuletide spirit. When the weather outside is frightful, warm up with these festive cocktails. Tip: Estimate about 1.5 oz vodka for the average martini glass Tip: Walnuts are a good source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids Tip: Experiment with festive cocktail ingredients such as Gingerbread Liqueur Tip: Heavy cream + electric mixer = easy, homemade whipped cream Trick: Thin out cranberry sauce with a little juice or water Trick: Securely hold top of the shaker to keep it from flying off Trick: Use decaffeinated coffee for a cozy after dinner drink Technique: Shake 20 times for a nice cocktail froth Technique: Thicker drinks will take longer to fully strain Technique: Garnish with crushed gingersnap cookies for festive flavor

West Eleven Cocktails – Passion Fruit Mai Tai

May 16, 2011 by · 1 Comment

www.westelevencocktails.com The Mai Tai was invented in the 1930s in California by one of two men depending on whom you believe. Whether it was Don the Beachcomber, or Trader Vic, one thing is for certain, its name (Maita’i roa) means “out of this world” in Tahitian. This drink was the flagship of a cocktail era that started in the 30s and lasted well into the 70s (where all things cool died a death!) until its re-emergence in the Millennium. The Tiki style of cocktail involves rums from all across the Caribbean and the South Pacific mixed with tropical juices and served in elaborate glasses often adorned with the faces of the Tiki gods. With a special blend of heavy Jamaican and Guyanese rums as a base we needed to give this exotic potion a twist with a flavour that wouldn’t feel intimidated by such a big hitter and passionfruit seemed the obvious choice with its tangy freshness, which combined beautifully with the moorishly sweet almond syrup. And so the Passionfruit Mai Tai was born.
